Off-Campus Access

A. Logging in From Off-Campus

  1. When using a computer off-campus, if you click on any JSRCC Library database links you will get a Virginia's Community College System login screen first.  Login with the same username and password you use for accessing any services through My JSRCC (e.g., Blackboard). After you login, you will get the database search screen.

  1. For more information, go to our Off-Campus Access web page.

 B.  Linking Directly to Articles - Proxy Server and URL Prefix

The library’s licensed databases available through either consortium - VIVA (The Virtual Library of Virginia) and VCCS (Virginia Community College System) require that we control access and restrict it to faculty, staff, and students affiliated with JSRCC.  This is accomplished by using a proxy server for off-campus access to these databases.  To engage the proxy server, the URL that connects the user to the vendor's database must be modified to include the proxy server information.  When you save (bookmark) a URL from an article in a database for use in a reading list or class assignment, that URL must also be modified if students are to use those links from off-campus. To engage the off-campus proxy environment, a URL must have a prefix added that will cause the proxy server to determine if the user must be authenticated or not.  This prefix consists of the following text:

http://ezproxy.vccs.edu:2048/login?url=

EBSCOhost Databases

URL:  http://library.vccs.edu/license-bin/linker.plx?ebsco
